It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas! 12/09/2011
I know, I know, I've been absent for a while, life got a bit carried away with itself and I've struggled to get anything done.
Work has gone manic and with Christmas poking his expensive head around the corner I just can't say no to the shifts.
I've been naughty today. There's a big debate in my little home at the moment about Christmas trees, it's the old classic Real versus Fake!! Mr.K is adamant that he wants a fake tree, his grandfather and parents have always had fake and then I strolled in and demanded real, real, real. He claims real makes too much mess, and with 2 hyperactive dogs about who like to have their noses in the window I can see his point, but nothing says Christmas more than the smell of that tree in the front room!!
Anyway, I digress, the point is that I was very naughty and I have been and bought a tree behind his back.. Cheaper than any of our past trees as it was from the horticultural part of the college that I attend... and probably nicer too. I've snuck it into the back garden and on Sunday I'm going to bite the bullet and ask him to help me carry it into the front room. Wish me luck?!
Hopefully this will help me get a little bit of the Christmas spirit back that I'm sadly lacking this year!
Tomorrow Is Another Day... 10/17/2011
They sent me home...
I'm a poorly sausage today, full of cold and fever. I wrenched myself out of my cosy, warm bed this morning and got to college on time but after two and a half hours considering Eryngium and other plants and how they're sold by the retailer my head was fried.
It's not the case that I can't take it because on a normal day it all goes in my head easy-peasy it's the head-cold that does me in. It doesn't really help that I suffer from a bit of vertigo and if my teeth are playing up or anything Ear, Nose or Throat related and I just start to spin. I call it the fish bowl feeling.. My head is in a fish bowl, I can hear the noises but it's sometimes hard to distinguish them, especially when seashell-like noises are being played directly into the fish bowl..
Oh well I'm home now anyway and I've lit the fire, I have a steaming cup of tea complete with digestive, and a doggy as a hot water bottle.

Little Donkey 10/11/2011
I've reawakened my love of making donkeys!!
I haven't made one in quite some time but I started clearing out a cupboard the other day and I realised that I have material that I saved for donkeys and it was taking up space, so I cut the pieces out and I've bought some different threads and I'm ready to sew.
I go through phases, I think I stop after about 10 because Mr.K gets cross with me not paying any attention to anything but donkeys.. What can I say..?!..I get obsessed..
I made one a while back with our wedding fabric, we've used it for buttons and various other bits so I figured I needed a Donkey too.. He's got a luggage label around his neck inviting someone to steal him and help him fulfil his life's dream of seeing the world!
My sister E has said she's already got her eye on him. She finishes her studies at UCLU just after the wedding and then she plans on travelling, he'd be a perfect companion!!
I haven't actually got a photo of him unfortunately but the one above is one that I printed the fabric for..

Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life... 10/06/2011
I don't really know what to say today, my brain has more or less turned to mush. Today is the first day in a while that I've had time to myself, to catch up with myself and I can't really think straight. But tonight I still have to turn around and go to work..yay.
Today's been about wedding organisation as well. I'm quite an impulsive person and the time frame that my Mum and I set for the wedding I've had time to wait for things to fall into place, like the hair accessory and the necklace. We've waited to find the right thing instead of just jumping straight in head first, well at least that's what we've done with the little things, I just wish I'd waited a little while with some of the big things and not jumped so fast, for instance the photographer, we've booked him on recommendation and whilst recommendation means a lot I wish I'd taken some time and scouted around first. His images are gorgeous but I think we could have found someone who was more Us. But isn't that the beauty of hindsight.
There's other things that I won't regret for one moment such as these little guys..
I found them years ago on www.notonthehighstreet.com and fell in love and once I was engaged I couldn't get the idea of them as favours out of my head. Fortunatly Mr.K and Mum loved the idea too so we contacted Laura Long, their maker, and provided her with material for their tummies and a couple of months later I had a bag full of 45 of the amazing little blighters! WoOoOp! Laura had now gone on to add them individually onto her sellers page on NOTHS as wedding favours, good idea me!!

Weekly Obsession - Hello Hydrangeas! 10/03/2011
Look at this little beauty. He's beautiful!! Can you not just imagine a bundle of them in white, cream and pale pink with some Gypsophilia. They're on my mind this week and they are available in so, so many colours! Whilst I was doing my work experience the other day Kate had some hung up around the work room, drying out. Apparently they then go towards making some pretty awesome, natural, confetti.
In fact the confetti I'm looking at for my wedding contains a fair bit of hydraenga. Take a look at Shropshire Petals, they freeze dry petals, perfectly for big days, and it's all naturally biodegradable so nobody has to go around sweeping it up after and vicars and councils can't get cross!!

It\'s Been A Hard Day\'s Night. 10/01/2011
It's been a busy, busy week full of college, homework, work experience, work, accidental lie-ins that set you behind all day, being woken up by drunken students at 3:30am, and just when you think you can sit down with a cup of tea you realise that you haven't done any washing in a week and a half and that you're about to run out of clean knickers.
A woman's work is never done...
Writing my thoughts down is a way of switching off for me. I may not o it often and it may be a bit sporadic but it helps. For instance at the moment I've just got home from my waitressing job. It's been a six and a half hour slog at a busy little local place but I love it. I love my colleagues and most of the time I love the customers. Tonight was great, every other table had someone I knew on it, be it that I knew them from this current job or my last, most recent, job that I only left a little while back. Tonight was the latter and I thoroughly enjoyed my little catch-up with them as I flew past with a pile of plates in hand.
The great upshot of seeing one of them is that him and his lady, whom I though was a wife and isn't actually a wife yet, are getting married on 16th June 2012, two weeks after myself and when I mentioned that I'm doing floristry she seemed really keen to know more and potentially have me do their wedding flowers.. So fingers crossed I may have potentially booked my first wedding!! Ahhh!! Yay!
Right well the excitement is down abating and the tiredness is really setting in so I'm off to drink a hot cup of decaf and wait for Mr.K to come home from his bouncing stint.

Work Experience 09/28/2011
I have my first day's work experience tomorrow with a lovely florist just around the corner. Her name's Kate and she seems really lovely and happy to be having me there. I am after-all a free set of hands for a few hours here and there.
I was thoroughly excited the other day to get my "toolbox" from college, full of wires and tape, frogs and pins, just excitement!! I could now technically make buttonholes and pretty-ness at home. Instead me and Mr.K just permanently borrowed some Cupressus from the park on our evening dog walk.. Naughty...
I cannot wait to have the skills to be able to produce wedding-worthy florals!!!

Relax, Don't Do It. 09/22/2011
Today is a day off, no college, instead a time to catch up on everything I'm getting behind with, ie. Cleaning. My homework has been done and I'm constantly trying to remember the latin names of flowers in my head so I have no excuse not to clean. Boo.. Hiss..
Last night M & I shifted 1.5 cubic metres of wood for our wood burner and today my body aches. The constant up & down of picking and stacking wood is far more effective than a gym session.
It Starts At The Very Beginning. 09/21/2011
I love this flower malarky. we're on our second week and already I feel like I have learnt loads. Loads about colour, about shape, arranging, tying, plant names, all-sorts. Today we were working on symmetrical arrangements, I used mini sunflowers, statice and yellow spray carnations. I'll post a photo later!
